AMBUCS HUB City Playground
26th Street west of Nashville
Inside Maxey Park

The AMBUCS HUB City Playground is located at Maxey Park and is completely ADA accessible.  HUB stands for Helping Undo Barriers and it allows children of all abilities to play together. A special thanks to the three Lubbock AMBUCS chapters for making this possible.

American Museum of Agriculture

Opened in May 2002, the museum exhibits include restored tractors from Lubbock County Historical Collection plus more machinery, implements, and artifacts.

American Wind Power Center
1701 Canyon Lake Drive
Inside Mackenzie Park

In 1993, a non-profit organization was established to acquire a large number of restored early windmills. The city of Lubbock provided at 28-acre tract of city park land along with some buildings for indoor displays. The rarest windmills of the collection are exhibited inside the larger building while outdoors windmills are being erected on towers, many with pumps and tanks. The American Wind Power Center is the most comprehensive collection of historic windmills in the world. (Closed Mondays)

FINA/ALON USA Crossroads in Time Sculpture Garden
400 Block of East Broadway
West of Mackenzie Park

The FINA/ALON USA Crossroads in Time Sculpture Garden is located east of the South Plains Fairgrounds on the western boundary of Mackenzie Park.  Dedicated in October 2004, this new addition to the Lubbock park system is truly monumental with artwork by Sculptor Steve Teeters that represents the art, architecture, history and heritage of the Llano Estacado.

Joyland Amusement Park
4th and I-27
Inside Mackenzie Park

A West Texas fun-filled tradition located in the heart of Mackenzie Park.  Joyland has great rides and attractions ranging from a log ride, water coaster and roller coasters to junior rides and family classics  like the colorful carousel, food favorites, exciting games and group outing facilities. Open mid-March through mid-September.

Legacy Play Village
Spur 327 and Brownfield Highway
Inside McAlister Park

Legacy Play Village is a unique play/learn facility which was sponsored by the designed and built by the citizens of Lubbock and the surrounding area.  It has three picnic pavilions that are available for rental year-round.  To reserve a pavilion, call the Parks and Recreation Office at 775-2673.


 

 

 




Lubbock Memorial Arboretum
4111 University Avenue
Inside Clapp Park

The Lubbock Memorial Arboretum is located in Clapp Park and is an exhibit of the best trees, shrubs, vines and other ornamental plants which can be grown in this area, a laboratory for studying existing plants and testing, evaluation and experimenting with new plants, and a tranquil area with walkways, paths, vistas, and rest sites for the pleasure and education of local citizens and other visitors. Open to adults with special programs for children.

War Memorial

After much hard work, the Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial was dedicated on December 7, 2003.  The Memorial is a shining reminder of the sacrifices of the men and women who have so willingly given of themselves for our country. This community owes American Legion George S. Berry Post 575 and Auxiliary a debt of gratitude for their untiring efforts on making this Veterans Memorial a reality.

Willie McCool Memorial

The Willie McCool Statue was created as a lasting tribute to McCool: his life, his vision and his contributions to our understanding of our place in the universe.  The young boy represents both McCool's early interest in science and the sense of adventure and curiosity inherent in children everywhere who dream of achieving the impossible.

Prairie Dog Town

Of all Nature's wild creatures, none is more appealing and entertaining to watch than the Prairie Dog.  In the 1930's, Prairie Dog Town was established in Mackenzie Park and has been enjoyed by resident and visitors alike throughout its history.

Prairie Dog Town was recently renovated
 and is now open to the public!

Safety City

Safety City is a unique kid-sized town where children learn hands-on the rules of pedestrian, bicycle and traffic safety. More than 6,000 public school kids go through the program each year.   For information, call 767-2712.

Skate Park at Stubbs Parks

36th Street and Avenue N

Skateboard enthusiasts can enjoy their sport at the new Skate Park at Stubbs Park. Featuring a half pipe, quarter pipe, two fun boxes, a manual box and three banked wedges, this lighted skate park is perfect for all levels of skateboarders and it’s free!
